About

Alice Mark, mom of two and founder of Momnames

Hi — I’m Alice Mark.

Mom of two kids, sharing what I love with moms everywhere: what a name actually means, how it gets misspelled, and whether it will still feel right in ten years.

Why Momnames exists

Most name sites give you names. I try to give you the reasoning. Every list here comes with the part other sites skip: what the name means and where it’s from, how people will mangle the spelling, what it shortens to, and — the honest bit — who it genuinely doesn’t suit.

Where I recommend against a name, I say why. Where I’m not sure, I say that too.

What you’ll find here

  • Checked facts. Meanings, origins and popularity data are checked against published sources, including the US Social Security Administration’s name records.
  • An honest caveat on every name. If it gets misspelled at every coffee shop, I’ll tell you before you fall in love with it.
  • A straight answer on who it doesn’t suit. No name is for everyone, and pretending otherwise isn’t helpful.
  • Corrections welcome. Spot something wrong — especially an etymology? Tell me and I’ll fix it.
